French Fries - The healthy way

Have you ever read all the ingredients in those bags of frozen French Fries? And those deep fried fries from the restaurants...let's not even go there. I thought I would post the easy and healthy ways I like to make French Fries.

Plan French Fries

Ingredients
  • Fresh Organic Potatoes (sweet or white)
  • Cooking spray (I use Virgin, Cold-pressed Olive Oil)
  • Sea Salt (Optional)
 Directions
  1. Clean and dry the number of potatoes you wish to use (I use a one potato per person rule)
  2. Slice potatoes into desired shape. I like steak fries myself. Whether you cut them into slices or chips, leave the skins on to get all the nutrients.
  3. Spray cookie sheet with Olive Oil.
  4. Place on cookie sheet and spray one side with cooking oil.
  5. Bake at 425 degrees for 7 to 8 minutes, turn, spray potatoes with oil, and bake another 7 to 8 minutes (for thinner slices cut the baking time back)
  6. Sprinkle with sea salt and serve.
Onion & Garlic Flavored French Fries

For this version I follow the directions above except I add the spices to the potatoes after I apply the Olive Oil (Step 4).

Spice Mixture

  • 1 teaspoon of Sea Salt (Optional)
  • 2 teaspoons of Onion Powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon of Garlic Powder
I keep this mixture in a spice jar and sprinkle it over the oiled potatoes. Follow baking directions in step 5, adding spice after spraying oil on each side of potatoes.

Play around with the amount of spices you use to suit your taste.
