Information
- Oven Temperature: 425 degrees
- Baking Time: 15 to 20 Minutes
Ingredients
Dough
- 1 T. Yeast
- 2 T. Sugar
- 1 C. Warm Water
- 3 C. All-purpose Unbleached Flour (or Whole Wheat or a mix)
- 2 T. Olive Oil
Building ingredients
Tailor the building ingredients to fit your needs. Below
is what I like to fill my rolls with. The trick here is to use fresh
ingredients.
- Pizza Sauce
- Mushrooms
- Bell Peppers (All colors when I have them)
- Sweet Onion
- Roma Tomatoes
- Vegan Mozzarella Cheese
Prep Work
- If you are adding powder spices combined them
- If using fresh herbs (maybe some basil) chop it as desired
- Clean and slice the veggie into desired size. Just make sure they will fit into the dough.
Directions
Prepare Dough
- Place water in bowl
- Stir in sugar until dissolved
- Stir in yeast until dissolved
- Cover and let set for 5 minutes (it should look foaming when the yeast is activated)
- Add one cup of the flour and mix
- Add olive oil and mix
- Add another cup of flour and mix
- Add as much of the last cup of flour as needed, until it is not sticky
- Sprinkle the bottom of a bowl with flour and place the dough on top of that in the bowl, then roll the dough over once
- Cover the bowl with a clean, dry towel, place in a warm area, and let the dough rise for 30 minutes
Prepare to Rolls

- Sprinkle four on the area you plan to roll the dough out on
- With a rolling pin, roll the dough out into a circle. You want it to be thin, but not so thin that it will not hold your filling
- Cut
an "X" in the circle so you have 4 sections of dough. (I like to
use a pizza cutting wheel for this. Be careful not to scratch or cut the
surface under the dough.)
the outer end of each section you will add some sauce, and then layer your
filling as you wish. Make sure there is an area of bare dough all around
the edges (I layer mine in the order I listed them above)
Click to enlarge - Once all the filling is stacked take each corner and fold it in, pressing the corners into the clean area of dough just in front of your filling
- Take
the back area and begin to roll the fillings up, as tight as possible.
Click to enlarge - Carefully place the roll on a cookies sheet. (I like to spray the cookie sheet with a little Canola oil first)
- Mix a little of the sauce with some olive oil. (Maybe 4 T. of Sauce and about 1 T. oil). Then brush the mixture over the top and sides of the rolls.
- Bake
Consider making these as a family or
for a gathering. Each person can create their own pizza roll to suit their
taste. Bonding time before and during the meal!
